Communication is never transmission of message nor message itself. It is the mutual exchange of understanding, originating with the receiver. Communication needs to be effective in business. Communication is essence of management. Basic functions of management cannot be perform well without effective communication. Business communication involves constant flow of information. Feedback is integral part of business communication. Organisations these day are very large. It involves number of people. There are are various level of hierarchy is an organization. Greater the number of levels,the more difficult is the job of managing the organization. Communication here plays a very important role in progress of directing and controlling the people in the organization. Immediate feedback can be obtained and misunderstanding if any can be avoided. There should be effective communication between superior and subordinated in an organization, between organization and society at large (for example between management and trade unions.) It is essential for success and growth of an organization. Communication gap should not occur in any organization.

Business communication is is goal oriented. The rule regulations and policies of a company  have to be communicated two people within and outside organization. Business communication is regulated by certain rules and norms. In early times, business communication was limited to paperwork, telephone calls etc. But now with advent of Technology, we have cell phone, video conferencing, emails, satellite communication to support business communication.effective business communication helps in building goodwill of an organization.

Business communication can be of two types:-

Oral communication :-  can oral communication can be formal or informal. Generally business communication is a formal means of communication, like:- meeting interviews group discussion speeches etc. an example of informal business communication would be - grapevine.

Written communication :-  written means of communication includes- agenda, Reports,Manuals etc.

In business, reputation and credibility need to be built up in order to get clients' trust and confidence. Having a sense of professionalism will bring a lot to the business, especially in a long-term relationship with employees and clients.

There is a need to make sure that every business deal is attended to promptly. Business communication encompasses not only communicating with external contacts but also with employees within the organization. This will aid the business in Being well organised and every matter weather it is a problem, an enquiry aura sales letter will be attended to properly and promptly.

It does not mean that only our client's enquiry should be response to promptly but also paid back for problem arising inside and outside the business as well. This is done to have a balance between the internal and external factors, especially in relation to dealing with people, whether they are employees or other external contacts.

Electronic communication comprises different modes communication apart from the traditional way. It includes email, fax, teleconferencing and voicemail. This is use of external contacts and four people within the business organization.

Employment communication is a mode of communication used for employees but specifically for accepting applicants for a job. It includes application letter, follow up communications, interview and resumes.

Nonverbal communication is a mode of of communication that uses body language and other means of communicating without the use of uttering words. It includes body language, expression, gestures, professional appearance, time or space.

Verbal communication is a mode of communication that used is the uttering of words in communicating to external contact and employees. It includes feedback, instructions, presentations and telephone.

Written communication is a mode of communication that required writing in order to communicate. It includes letters,memos, proposal and reports.
A CASE STUDY

You have a company, you being  a day's work with a brief meeting with your employees. Later on that day you hand visual graphs of production rate of the past few weeks, where everyone can see.

After lunch you get an email concerning a complaint from the customer starting that the product is not working properly, so then, you notify your employees and explain the case after apologizing to the customer about the inconvenience.

By the end of the day a shipment has finally arrived from the vendor's, containing parts that you have been waiting aur tu finish assembling your product, once again you notify your employees so they can being preparing. Finally at the end of the day, you receive a call; it turns out to be a customer who is interested in buying your product.

What you practically e did for a a day's work was communicating,beginning with the brief meeting you had with your employees to the customer you spoke to at the end of the day. The way you are communicated at work is what you call "service".

When you had your meeting you communicated with your employees, which is considered to be an internal communication, as when you notified them about the product failure, the arrival of the shipment, and when you hung the productivity graphs, all these actions you made are considered internal communication.

Not only did you use internal communication but you used external communication also for instance when you received the email and apologize to the complaining customer,also when you spoke to the client who was interested in purchasing your product. Communication is used so frequently in business, but why would communicating properly be of of any importance?
